Former activist faces foreclosure

When one is unable to meet their financial obligations, it often feels like there is no way out. For many Tennessee residents, foreclosure has simply become yet another fact of life. Those facing foreclosure or bankruptcy will most likely benefit from consulting an experienced attorney who can help them chart a course through debt relief options, including federal bankruptcy laws. Fortunately, one feel-good story has emerged out of the gloom.

Brynna Fish has been a longtime advocate for victims of domestic abuse. She has been a community activist in her local region, spreading information on domestic violence. Yet, like so many other Americans, she recently found herself unable to pay her mortgage payments due to an illness.

Fish is unable to work due to a disease called Hypogammaglobulinemia, a blood disorder that prevents her body from making antibodies. Her inability to work, combined with costly medical bills, made her three months late on her mortgage payments. She owes the bank $80,000 and faces a September 30 deadline to come up with the balance due. If she can’t raise enough money, however, the bank will foreclose her home and put her and her mother on the street.

When friends and family learned of her predicament, they leaped into action and established the Brynna Fish Development Fund. As of Sept. 22, the Fund had raised about $53,000. Although she still has a ways to go, it now appears that Fish may be able to earn enough money to keep her house, thanks to the goodwill of her community.

While a financial crisis can be terrifying, there are ways to move forward and unload some debt. Chapter bankruptcy is a way to settle most debts and to get a fresh start. Those facing a foreclosure or otherwise unable to honor debt obligations should consider talking with a bankruptcy attorney intent on helping people solve their financial troubles. Facing foreclosure is a stressful and harrowing experience, and having the assistance of someone who understands the process and knows how to help can be a relief.
