Richard
Banks came to Cleveland thirty years ago after graduating
from the University of Tennessee Law School. He holds
degrees in Education and History from the University of
Tennessee, Knoxville. A former school teacher, Banks
taught in Gordon County, Georgia, and served as a part-time
instructor at Cleveland State Community College in the
Paralegal and Criminal Justice programs.
Mr. Banks currently serves in the position of
Cleveland's City Councilman-at-Large. He is a former officer and board member
of MainStreet Cleveland and currently serves as Chairman of
the Cleveland/Bradley County Greenway Commission.
Richard is a past president of the Child Shelter Board and
former president of the Bradley County Bar Association.
He was a member of the Bradley County/Cleveland Local
Government Study Commission, which was organized to
streamline local government and make suggestions to city and
county governments to save taxpayers' money.
Mr. Banks has also worked to raise funds for
the United Way and remains active in other civic
organizations.
Richard and his wife, Amy, and their
children, Allison and Bradley, attend Broad Street United
Methodist Church.
